“The river winds through the mountains. The herbs are scattered on the riverbanks. There is a faint sound of music all around.” The picturesque scenery described in the poem of Ouyang Xiu, has reappeared at the foot of the Great Wall.

"In the arms of Mother Nature, we build a mountain, cultivate a field, and exploit a land with beautiful sceneries." The land here refers to the China Pavilion of the Beijing Expo 2019. As the main venue to exhibit Chinese horticulture, the China Pavilion is known with its crescent shape. The characteristics of traditional Chinese architecture have been well integrated in this modern building.

The colorful terrace fields illustrate the origin of horticulture. "A ruyi with mellow shape is surrounded by mountains and rivers." The designer of the China Pavilion said that the design concept of the China Pavilion was to pay respect to the origin of horticulture, and to show the characteristics of traditional Chinese architecture. The wind passes through the soil every time before it blows into the pavilion. This is like the wind passes through the basement that is cool in summer and warm in winter before it blows into the room. The curved gabion wall is associated with local characteristics, such as the Great Wall in Yanqing. The Great Wall is built of stones and rocks, and it winds along the mountainside. Therefore, the designer of the China Pavilion gave the gabion wall in the pavilion a curved shape, which represents the local culture elements of Yanqing.

When one looks the China Pavilion in the distance, the whole building is glittering like gold. With "ruyi" as its name, the China Pavilion integrates magnificent features into mellow elements. The "forest world" in the pavilion has provided visitors with a "green travel". The floor is made of green drysdash, and the wall is made of green granitic plaster. Even the ceiling is made of green metal grilles. The sunlight shines through the crater-shape skylights, forming scraps of golden light spots on the ground.
